Default Week 9

Dan HOH

Dan wins Luxury comp

Big Brother 10: Week 9 Nominations Recap

Big Brother doesn't need to have nominations in the final four. Really, they don't, and it's pretty remarkable that CBS continues to insist on holding them. No matter who Dan chose to nominate tonight as the Head of Household, the Power of Veto competition was the only thing that matters because it will give the winner the choice of who to evict. OK, well, that's not exactly true. If Dan as HoH wins the Power of Veto, he can decide who is on the block, but not how the one safe non-HOH votes. So, in a way, the Big Brother final four nominations are a tiny bit important, but still not enough to revolve a whole episode around. Tonight's Big Brother featured a bizarre luxury competition that will likely swing some jury votes one way or another.

Backyard Madness

The luxury competition that was teased at the end of Thursday's episode took up much of tonight's action. The sumo guy held a note under his butt that informed the houseguests that they would be playing for a trip out of the house. The next day, a person dressed up in a gorilla suit (who turned out to be Jessie from Big Brother 10) woke the houseguests up They were led outside to the backyard where a bunch of random crap was situated, including: A female contortionist wearing a blue leotard, a bathtub full of dirt, a big diamond, an ostrich wearing glasses, boxing gloves, a giant hot dog, a wolf-like creature, a space ship, a living Caesar statue, a waterfall, and a cracking egg with IT written on it.

The players are told the rules – they have three hours and three guesses to figure out what the hidden phrase involving all the objects is. The catch – most of the objects have nothing to do with the phrase, and they get slowly covered up over the course of the three hours. Keesha and Jerry use their guesses too early. Dan waits until only two objects are left – a blueberry and the hatching egg with “IT” written on it. He guesses that “bury the hatchet” is the hidden phrase, and he is correct. In the diary room, he is told that he can either take someone in the house, or one of the jury members to the private beach with him. Dan decides to take Michelle from the jury house to try and win her over. He opts, however, to lie and tell the current houseguests that he decided to go alone. He doesn't even tell them that he was allowed to take a jury member.

Dan's Nominations

Dan's decision didn't really matter tonight, and he knew that. With only four houseguests left in the game, the only challenge that matters is the Power of Veto, because they control the one vote inside the house. Recognizing this, Dan used the nominations to get on Keesha's good side. He nominated Jerry and Memphis. In Keesha's mind, it was a nice gesture, but in reality it was a hollow one. Another good move from Dan.

Big Brother 10: Hooter's Girl Joins The Jury

Julie Chen welcomes us to day 64 of Big Brother 10, but says that the game is far from over. Whoever wins the final veto not only wins safety, but they can also be the sole power to evict.

Dan has won a Big Brother 10 luxury competition that includes a trip out of the house. He is able to choose anyone to accompany him on his trip, including any jury member. Dan chooses to take Michelle from the Big Brother 10 jury house on his trip, but decides that it would be best to tell the others that he is going alone rather than risk telling them and possibly losing his opportunity to win the game.

In his nominations, Dan explains that it is tough to nominate anyone, but this POV will be one battle for the Yankees. Dan says that Memphis agrees to be nominated. Dan wants Keesha's trust and Memphis will keep Jerry which will put them in total control of the final two. Jerry feels that Dan has a commitment to Keesha to keep her in the game. He talks to Memphis about the commitment to go all the way. Jerry promises him that no matter what, he will give him the vote. Memphis feels that the plan they have worked on is coming into place perfectly. Keesha feels that she is safe with Dan making the decisions, and she says that it is so rare in the house to actually be with people who have each other's back. Dan says that whoever comes up with the Veto win will influence who goes home this week and he feels that with his connection with Keesha he can influence her vote, while Memphis will influence Jerry's vote should either of them win the final Power of Veto. Jerry tells Memphis that he is his final hope.
Dan and Memphis speak of Jerry's conversation with Memphis and they decide that Memphis can slice him if necessary. Memphis says that he would love to send him home, but the best bet is for Memphis to win the Power of Veto.

Dan takes Michelle on his island getaway. Her last comments were threats to do him physical harm. Dan sees this as a great opportunity to sway a jury member who he has done a tremendous wrong to. He decides that this trip will make him or break him. Dan notices that gas prices are lower and hopes the economy is improving. He travels by helicopter but worries about meeting Michelle. He hopes that the helicopter trip gives him a chance to work some magic with her. He meets her and they hug. Michelle is surprised that he has chosen her. He wants to pump Michelle with some wine and cheer her up. Michelle says that the other jury members don't know who she is going with. Michelle says that she was told by him that he chose her because she lost her trip and was back doored. Dan tells her that everyone knew she was back doored and Michelle says that it puts her in perspective. Dan says that he has a long way to go for her to even be his friend, but he wants her to enjoy this trip. He asks her if it came to him and Memphis would she be able to sway people and she says that she might be able to. Michelle says that the best decision he could have made was to pick her. Dan says that he had fun with her and that the more fun they had the more chance he had to sway her vote.

Tonight's Big Brother 10 Power of Veto competition is the most important to date. The Power of Veto winner could cast the sole vote to decide which nominee will go to the jury house. This competition is the most important in Big Brother 10 and Jerry says that that he is going to work his hardest, while Keesha understands that to stay off the block, she has to win it. In this "Steps to Veto" competition the houseguests must match a fact about a house guest with the name of the house guest, climbing stairs as they go. Each house guest works their way up the pyramid without seeing the work of the other houseguests. There are statements about a house guest on either side of the steps and the correct house guest's name must fit on the step between the two statements. The only evicted house guest to eat both pig ears and crickets is the bottom step and the correct house guest is Michelle.

Dan is ahead, but he can see Memphis from the top of the pyramid, and having no vested interest in this competition, he decides to throw it as long as Memphis stays in the lead. As Dan hoped, Memphis wins the Power of Veto and sees it as just business. Memphis says that they just sealed it to final three and they decide that there is only one more competition to the end for them. Dan and Memphis make a tough decision, deciding endurance and will are the most important. With Jerry having a cataract and an injury they think he might be the best one to take. Keesha comes up and jokes that her fate is in their hands once again. Memphis tells her that at least she didn't unpack. He covers it by saying that everyone should be packed. She heads downstairs, saying she is going to bed.

Keesha suspects that she is going to be evicted and tells the diary room that she is way to close to be cut off right now. She goes up to the Head of Household room and asks them straight up if they are evicting her. Memphis won't meet her eyes and she says that she can tell by the look on their faces that they are voting her out, and Dan says, "You guys," and she corrects herself to Memphis. She says that she will not give whoever evicts her her vote and she will work on the jury to affect their votes as well. She says that is just common sense. Memphis tries to hug her and she refuses. He says that he is sorry, and he mouths that he can't tell her. Keesha asks him how long he knew this and that she stuck up for both of them and he has known this for so long. She says that after everything, you are sending me out of this house and keeping Jerry? Oh my God. She is crying. Memphis and Dan are serious and Keesha says that she is trying not to flip out and the worst thing is that she would have kept Memphis. Keesha quotes him as saying that she was sorry, and that she always had his back. Memphis feels that this is a five hundred thousand dollar decision, and Keesha says that she won't vote for him if he votes her out.

Julie mentions that there was a little monkey business at the luxury competition the other day and they replay scenes of the gorilla. Keesha is asked if she had known if it was him in the gorilla suit and she says that had she known she would not have been so giddy. She asks Memphis what a fruitless exit was? Memphis says that it was bad, but he needed to have something. Dan is asked about his trip and he says that the helicopter ride was wonderful and going to a private island was great. Julie comments on Jerry's longevity in the house and Jerry says that he is going to make an offer on the house and just stay there. Julie asks him, "How much?" and they all laugh.

The live Big Brother 10 Final Veto Meeting is held. Memphis decides to use the Power of Veto on himself, and Keesha is asked to take that place. Jerry addresses Memphis and he tells him that it has been a great ride and a great experience. He feels honored to be here. Keesha says that she doesn't want to speak to Memphis and wants to wish Dan good luck, thanking him for being there for her for the last few days. She says that she doesn't know how she would have made it through the last couple of days without him to support her.

Memphis has to cast the sole vote to evict. He says that it wasn't an easy decision but he looks at this as a business plan and he votes to evict Keesha. Keesha ignores Memphis but hugs Dan who gives her a message to read on the bottom of a duck for when she gets out. He whispers in her ear. Keesha leaves and Dan appears to be angry with Memphis, saying forcefully to Memphis that he can't believe that he did this and that Memphis is out of his mind if he thinks he will take him to the end after this.

Keesha greets Julie who asks what Dan just whispered to her. Keesha says that Dan just told her that he took Michelle on his trip. On the bottom of the duck he gave her it said, "Hot!" Keesha says that no one knew that he took anyone on his trip. When asked about her sudden eviction, Keesha said she was shocked and she says that she figured it out on her own last night. Since Jerry was so calm, she figured it out because he is never calm when he is not sure that he is safe. She says that she feels betrayed because Memphis had told her the entire time that she was safe, and one time she even turned votes around to keep her. She supported him and had his back the entire time.

Julie shares Keesha's goodbye messages with her. Memphis tells her goodbye and says that he was sorry to vote her out but it was the only thing that made sense to him and his game. He sees this as a business plan, he says. Jerry says that will be surprised if she gets this because it meant that her alliance didn't hold to the end. Dan says that he is sorry she is gone, and he tried to change Memphis' plan to evict her.

Julie announces the first leg of the final Head of Household competition, aptly called "Wing and a Prayer." Dan, Jerry, and Memphis are all eligible to compete and they must balance on the wing of an airplane. Each has his own plane to stand on. Julie says that they have a bumpy ride ahead of them as she leaves us watching the final three. Jerry and Dan are wearing long sleeved outfits and Jerry has on goggles. The three of them hold onto wires or ropes for support and must balance on their plane's wings.

This is the first of a three part competition. The winner of this first leg of three competitions will advance to the third leg, while the losers will go head to head in a second round. The winner of the second round advances to round three to compete against the winner of the first round for the final Head of Household position. The winner of that final round chooses who will go to the jury as the final jury member and who will go with him to face the jury in a final vote for their choice of Big Brother 10 winner.

Julie says that she will be back live on Thursday to see the final Big Brother 10 Head of Household crowned. Sunday is a special episode of outrageous events and hilarious moments never before seen on the Big Brother 10 show. Then, next Thursday, join her for the live finale, where the jury of 7 chooses the winner of Big Brother 10.

Julie returns to the backyard on the video screen, and tells the men that there are reports of turbulence ahead, so hang on. The three of them find their planes moving up and down as the show closes out.

Keesha interview

'Big Brother 10''s Keesha: EW's exit interview | EW.com

Keesha Smith, Big Brother 10's 29-year-old Hooters waitress from Burbank, Calif., talks to EW.com about her disdain for Memphis, that floater Jerry, and the message she received from Dan on the way out of the house.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So how are you feeling about Memphis this morning?
KEESHA SMITH: I’m not liking Memphis too much this morning.

In the episode, we really didn’t see Memphis explain why he was going to evict you. Did he say something to you that we didn’t see at home?
He never gave me any kind of explanation. He got up out of the chair and avoided me the rest of the time. I confronted him but he got up and he walked out of the room. He came to the sauna room and expected me to hug him!

Do you think there is anything you could have done differently?
I guess the only thing I could have done was maybe not be so friendly with Dan. That had a lot to do with it. If it came down to Memphis and Dan, I would have picked Dan in the end instead of him, and he saw my relationship with Dan getting stronger. That scared him.

Do you think Memphis was working with anyone in the house? Do you think he’s in an alliance with Jerry or Dan?
I’m not sure. There is so much going through my mind. There has to be something with Jerry in order for him to save Jerry. He couldn’t stand Jerry! I’m trying to put myself in his shoes. Jerry is more of a safe bet. He can beat Jerry in the competitions.

Why do you think Dan told you about taking Michelle?
I think that Dan told me about Michelle so I could work on votes for him in the jury house. He’s a smart guy.

What do you think about Dan taking Michelle to the island? What will that mean to the jury?
I don’t know if Dan has that good of a chance of winning this game. He’s done crazy things to people as far as hurt people’s feelings. If the jury looks at him as a game player -- and he’s been a heck of a game player -- he could win. He’s thrown some twists and turns in there. Out of the three left, he’s done a great job.

Dan left behind a cow for you that he said had a message on the bottom. It said hot. What does that mean?
I have absolutely no idea what it means! He kept saying look on the bottom, look on the bottom. When I got out there with Julie, I’m looking at it and it just says hot.

How does it feel knowing that Jerry is in there and you’re not?
Oh...I don’t know what to say. Wow. I feel he got passed along. He kept getting passed along. He’s a 75-year-old man. We kept saying we’ll get him out later, but we all promised we wouldn’t do that. He never had to do anything in the game. Now I’m like, are you kidding me? Dude, you are 75 years old. He didn’t treat me too well. In the beginning, we got along very well, and I tried to show him respect because he’s 75 years old. I would feel sorry for him when he was out wandering by himself. But then I would try to talk to him and he would pop off. Jerry was very arrogant. He never would have gotten away with things in the house if he weren’t 75 years old.

Do you plan to campaign against Memphis in the jury house?
I’m not sure about that.

Who is the person you are not looking forward to seeing in the jury house?
That would be Miss April. We just don’t see eye to eye.

Aren’t you glad you weren’t like April and allowed Jerry to touch your chest on national TV?
I would have never allowed Jerry to do that on the first episode of Big Brother or ever in my life. Period.

Big Brother 10: Final Eviction, Live Results

It has been a long, arduous, occasionally hate-filled journey, my fellow Big Brother enthusiasts, but the final eviction episode of the season is upon us. Julie Chen is three episodes away from being put back in her cryogenic chamber, only to be let out for a few hours each morning, but mostly Mrs. Bot will be hibernating until next July. Three will become two tonight inside the Big Brother house, and the masses will either rejoice or shrug indifferently.

Hi, Julie Chen.

I still feel bad for Keesha. She was truly hurt.

You know what I don't like? Memphis's stupid freaking hat. I would rather wear Jerry's t-shirt tucked into jean shorts get-up, than normal clothes plus stupid Memphis hat.

Head of Household, Part 1.

Memphis, Dan and Jerry stand on the planes, holding on for dear life, wearing immaculately silly goggles and hats. We flash back to Keesha's departure. Memphis admits that it wasn't personal. They simply had a better chance at beating Jerry in the final HoH.

Dan whispered to Keesha, as she left, that he took Michelle on the trip. Dan explains that he did that so he ended up being completely honest with Keesha. He told her to “finish it,” meaning that he wants Keesha to help secure Michelle's vote.

Jerry takes the bait in regards to Dan and Memphis's fake fight.

Dan really goes to town with the “Memphis stabbing his friends in the back” meme. He talks mad smack.

Jerry falls off soon after the HoH, Part 1 begins. It looks like a semi-nasty little fall. But, he's OK.

Dan and Memphis had agreed for Memphis to fall off. Memphis thinks that Dan was overplayign the whole fake fight thing. I agree.

Dan, a ways into the competition, is upset that Memphis hasn't yet fallen off. Memphis wanted to make Jerry think that he was actually trying to win. Memphis falls soon after.

Memphis has to win the second heat, everyone agrees.

Julie Chen has a difficult time saying the word “Renegades.” No need for a joke here.

Part 2 of the Head of Household. It's a boxing themed challenge. Memphis and Jerry go one at a time. There are cardboard cutouts of each of the original thirteen houseguests. The players have to knock down every houseguest except for the HoH and final nominated houseguests in each eviction ceremony, starting with week 1. They have to go through all ten groups of three, if you will. The player who finishes in the least amount of time wins.

It appears as if Memphis is dominating this challenge.

Dan reveals the results. Memphis finished in eight and a half minutes. Jerry finished in fifty one minutes.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That's an absolute thrashing. How is that even possible?

Dan and Memphis celebrate. Julie goes live to the houseguests. Jerry says when he fell into the pool, his brain got water-logged.

Yes, coming up we'll get to see how April and Michelle reacted to Keesha's appearance in the jury house. I'm hoping for some yelling. Maybe Renny and Keesha will throw down, and a full on brawl will ignite.

And WE'RE BACK!!

Let's see Keesha's arrival at the jury house. Renny says that being in the jury house sucks. She's funny. Michelle thinks it'll be interesting to have whoever arrives find out about her trip with Dan. Well, Keesha knows.

April, bitchiness engage. She says Keesha did a lot of backstabbing. Keesha vents about Memphis. Michelle's thunder has been stoled, and it makes me grin. The jurors watch the DVD. April blathers on about her support of Jerry now. Keesha has figured out that Dan was working on her for the vote. Even though Keesha has figured this out, she still thinks Dan has played a great game.

For the Final Part of the HoH competition. Dan and Memphis will be read statements made by the jurors while in the jury house. They are given the first part of the sentence, followed by two options. They have to choose A or B. Whoever has the most points after six questions, wins the Final HoH.

Going into the final question, Dan has the lead by one point.

DAN WINS THE FINAL HOH!!! He will cast the final eviction vote. Jerry thinks he might be sticking around right now. Sorry, old man.

Memphis and Jerry make their respective cases for being in the final two.

Dan votes to evict Jerry.

THE RENEGADES WIN!!!!

Jerry thinks that Dan made a mistake, because Jerry believes he will be the deciding vote.

Jerry gets teary-eyed talking to Julie, when he talks about the prospect of going home. It was actually pretty touching. Nice old man.

Julie says she has a very important announcement to make after the commercial break.

America's Vote. You can vote for which juror should win a special $25,000 prize. So, vote away minions.

'Big Brother 10''s Jerry MacDonald: EW's exit interview | EW.com

EW.com talked to Jerry MacDonald, the 75-year-old great-grandpa from Texas, about feeling lonely in the house, fighting with Dan, and how he didn’t really touch April’s boobs in the beginning of the season. (When you're done reading, click here for Josh Wolk's hilarious recap of last night's episode.)

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How many seasons of Big Brother have you watched? More importantly, why watch Big Brother than say, C-SPAN or The History Channel?
JERRY MACDONALD: I’ve seen every season. I like the challenge of Big Brother, the excitement of it. I like to see people go at it, people who use their brains and their hearts to play the game.

How much were you sure that Dan would take you to the final 2? Were you 50 percent sure? 100 percent sure?
None, because of his relationship with Memphis. I knew I was out because Memphis returned two shirts I had given him that my daughter had sent to me. They were a little big so to test the waters, I gave them to Memphis. He wouldn’t try them on. Just before the vote, he brought them back to me and told me to give them to my son-in-law. That was a signal that he and Dan had made a deal.

Maybe he just didn’t like the shirts.
They were nice, expensive shirts. They were brand new.

Let’s be honest, though -- for a good while in the house, you didn’t seem to like Dan at all and yelled at him constantly.
I don’t think he was friendly. He played a pretty nasty game over all, not just with me, but with other people. He’s not too well liked among the jury.

After the jump, Jerry talks about calling Dan "Judas," wearing his military hat, and touching April's boobs...

You called Dan "Judas," which means Jessie would have been Jesus. Why the biblical references? Why didn’t you just call him a miserable little putz and call it a day?
He was using religion. He kept saying if he confesses, all will be forgiven. He kept pushing the Bible thing so heavy, so I used Bible references. I think Dan’s a bright young man who is arrogant. And I think he needs to grow up. He’s like a child -- rather, I think he’s a grandchild.

You lost your temper a lot in the house. Do you usually behave that way at home or was it just these kids who set you off?
I was never as mad in the inside as I appeared on the outside. Whenever I’d walk away from a fight, you could see me smiling. I knew what I was doing.

Big Brother watchers say the Jerry we saw in primetime was much different than the Jerry we saw on the Internet. How would you describe your behavior in the house?
I was really polite to everyone. When someone won a competition I complimented them. When someone got nominated I shook their hand. I never really got nasty or mean about anything. The only time I really had a confrontation was with Dan and Memphis and when I suggested to Memphis that he was a womanizer. He told me he was going to become my biggest nightmare. I looked up to him and said, "I don’t think so." I don’t fear people.

Were you lonely? We often saw you wandering alone. Would people talk to you?
I played the game alone. It seemed like people were afraid to align to me. I had to zig-zag alone through there. Everybody I tried to make a deal with broke their word to me right up to the end. To get this far under those circumstances was quite amazing.

A lot was made out of the fact that you were the oldest person ever to play Big Brother. Why on earth would a mature man like you want to hang out with a bunch of 20-something knuckleheads?
It doesn’t matter whether they were 20 or 30. I wanted to do it for myself. I like the challenge. I was in sales and marketing for 38 years. I like games. I can carry my weight. I’m healthy and strong to mentally compete. I thought I did a pretty good job. Of course, if I had won the money I would have found something to spend it on.

You touched April’s boobs in the first week. Dude, explain yourself.
You know, that wasn’t me touching her boobs. That was her walking into my hands. That’s exactly what happened. She started walking up to me and pushed them into me to show that they were real so I put my hands up to protect myself.

That’s pretty funny, Jerry.
I meant it to be.

You talked a lot about bringing honor to the Corps. Jerry, really: How does appearing on a cheesy reality show where women run around in bikinis bring honor to the Corps?
That has nothing to do with bringing honor to the Corps. I wore my military hat and things like that to bring honor to the troops serving in our country. Because of them we remain free. The game has nothing to do with that.

You told Julie that this was your last hurrah. That’s so...depressing. If anything, shouldn’t this empower you? Why not do Survivor or The Amazing Race now?
You know, I may just try that, if I get home and get in better shape. Half the people on those shows self-destruct early. I could just lie down, act passive and probably get halfway through doing nothing. I may just do it.
