JD's pulled some really "classy" **** out of his hat. And while Ty was stupid to even venture into the "race" territory, he had a point in that THERE ARE VERY FEW BLACK LEAD ROCK SINGERS in today's music scene. You think race had absolutely nothing to do with why people didn't like him singing for INXS? Maybe some people feel that way, but I'm sticking to my original theory that it did, but not based on "red-necked racism", but based on style/presentation factors that he as a black man struggled to weave seamlessly together with INXS's music. It just didn't work for him, and because of that, he wasn't well received by the voting public. Perhaps my original post made it seem that I was saying I didn't like TY based on race, but I can assure you that isn't the case. He's been one of my favorite performers in this from early on, but I also recognized early on that he didn't have a chance in hell to actually win. He didn't have the fan-base the others seem to have. And many, many people stated that while they personally liked his voice, they just couldn't see him fronting this band. |
Just a question, but what percentage of Blacks, Hispanics or say Asians (you can guess) actually would choose "rock" music as their favorite form of music? I would say less than 1/2 or below. Even "blues" type music which was created by blacks back in the slave days has a predominently "white" following now. I kind of know for I am a blues fan and attend several shows per year. Factor in that (speaking to the United States Population) caucasion people are close to 70% of the overall population, with blacks, Asians, Hispanic, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, etc, etc, making up the other 30% one can see via statistics and simple math why Blacks do not "front" a large percentage of bands.
It is not "The Man" keeping blacks from fronting bands, it is the limited number of blacks that actually like rock as opposed to those not liking the genre per see.
In regards to the "bad points" in the show, I'll agree that JD's "your not my friend anymore" last night would have been the worst of his multiple BS'ings and would be the worst overall but how could you not agree that anyone pulling the race card tops even that idiot JD?
As far as "talent" goes, I would choose Ty, Deanna or Jordis for overall vocal range and stage ability. I think Jordis' "Imagine" was the best of the series thus far, so my choices are not "racially" motivated. Do I think any of those I just mentioned "fit", no but neither did Brandon, Neal, Daphne or any of the others booted thus far.
Ty (in my mind) said the worst thing possible. Most people are trying to improve race relations and his comments did nothing to help.
One man's opinion.
