Unhappy Survivor Bias

With 20 cast members, one can hardly expect to see every state represented on Survivor. However, I've noticed cast bias that I ran into accidently. Having looked for someone from my state of Louisiana, I noticed none appear this year. Then I scanned home states of the infamous 20. Not only none from my state, but neither Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Arkansas. Strange, huh?

What I did detect was location bias based on (yes) 10 (or half of the cast members) came from California.

Six came from the north.

The rest came from the west (Texas, Oregon, Washington Arizona).

Perhaps the south after a major election changed political opinions of the media, entertainment industry and the other parts of the U.S.

Perhaps representation of Southerners on a popular show is now a thing of the past, given every cast members selected comes from areas which skirted the Deep South below that of the Mason-Dixon line for more punishment beyond that of the dark ages of the Civil War. Political aims to exclude southern cast members has overriden fairness in selection. Who knows?

I do know that many true atheletes, gamers, intellegent selections have now been shunned but for whateve reason.

I do hope it's not for prejudice.

It because 10's of thousands of 20 somethings flock to california were casting take's place--

They look good
Don't have "real" jobs or kids so are available to take 3 months off
Are around when casting people cruise town and catch their eye

"Real" people have to travel to casting far away
Have jobs they invested years in and can't just pick up and leave
Have families
Never noticed by casting by accident because casting never goes to these rural places

Default They really should go back to the old school way.

The old castings by audition should come back. There are enough viable fans of the game that they shouldn't have any problem casting 16 people out of 50,000 auditions. It is a fan based and driven show.

Probst says 10,000 applications

1/3 people already who applied and were rejected for what ever reason ( think crazy Kathy of Fans V Favorites)

1/3 whose video is " I'm the new Rupert or I'm the new coach,ect..."

1/3 normal app's

It used to be 50,000. I know I haven't sent one in in a year, but I'm in college and can't get away for 3 months. .

Default Ahhh

I hadn't heard the stats in a while. Well, that means I have better odds when I send my next one in. I'm not in school next summer and what a job playing could be!

You really need to relax dude. There are no more carpet baggers intent on keeping the South down. William Sherman is dead as well as Mr Lee. The Freedom Riders have gone home. Woolworths went backrupt years ago. There is no clandestine movement to keep the South down.

The show is not trying to give a cross section of America. Travel and setting up auditions costs money. The Population of California is just under 38 million. That also happens to be where the entertainment industry is. A percentage of that population came there to enter the industry. And wow!!! half of the cast resides in that state. Who would have guessed....... Maybe the people seeking a foothold in the industry make a real push to be on the show. Just a thought......

Look a little closer. The majority of the cast is from LOS ANGELES. Where do you think the Mark Burnett Productions offices are? LOS ANGELES.

It has nothing to do with bias. It has everything to do with where the casting directory buys drinks, gets her hair done, and hangs out on weekends. (Nothing personal, Lynne.)

I live in the area. Mike, who got booted last week lives 2 miles from my house.
