Cool Survival?

This is another thing...if the show is supposed to be about survival, why did they give the participants a machete to begin with...the first show had nothing! Then in the second episode, I see Russell carrying an "ola" or the kind of basket we use for fishing around his neck...and the first episode with the females leaving tribal council with their Samoan purses. Why can't they learn to use the resources around them to learn all that? I wanted to watch them build their "fale's" from scratch. Just a word of caution, I hope they didn't tick off any aitu's (ghosts) while they were there!!!! We have plenty of them!!!

One of the Foa Foa girls ( I think Marisa taught basket weaving or something like that, in one of the deleted sences they showed all the Foa Foa women making baskets)

But maybe you're shooting to get a job as a real member of the production staff of Survivor. Obviously, good research skill is not a requirement.
The point of a dictionary is to stabilize a language. Articulation drifts with distance and time. The dictionary is meant to limit changes in spelling that reflect the change in articulation. With enough time and enough distance the root language will splinter into complete language bases with a common root if left on their own. Latin is a good example. Dictionaries are meant to stop this. So updating a spelling of a word runs counter to the intended purpose of the book. Even with the dictionary languages drift. Just look around the US to see how local metaphorical usage already colors a common tongue.

Ohh FYI, the use of Pronunciation, though useable, was wrong whether it was spelled with or without the O. The proper word to use is enunciation. It more accurately reflects the intended meaning in the original post. A common mistake made by just about everyone. I do not exclude myself from this list because I am a huge offender. The difference is that I know it and never try to school others on their spelling or grammar. Well.....until I see discussions like this one. Trash my spelling. Pick apart my grammar. I don't care. Just be sure you are above reproach when you do it to others.

Now that we all have shown our complete lack of understanding of our own language we can go back to talking about the show. LOL

OK, spoil my fun. But you didn't really. I still think it's funny that Les was trying to make a Samoan writer obviously concerned about how his culture is portrayed look stupid and he made himself look stupid. If I made myself look stupid as well, so be it. It wasn't right for someone who apparently works for the blogs to try to put someone in his place and not even spell the word he was referring to correctly. That is why it was so funny. If pronounciation is indeed added to the dictionary, it is because so many people misspelled it as he did. Maybe that's what you were trying to say. At least he didn't put enounciation. Oh, there I go laughing again. Maybe you should try it.

LOL Ohh trust me, I was before I typed the first word. Sorry if it comes off as condescending or insulting for that was far from my intention. I was just having a bit of fun with the language. (smile) As a Bard, metaphorical imagery and word usage are fun topics for me. I have been told that my sarcastic wit and Irish humor don't translate well to the written form. So forgive any preceived insilt for none was intended. (smile)

Alexander tg 1955, I was not offended. I love words, too and have always been confused on the difference between pronunciate and enunciate. I thought enunciate was used to describe saying the word clearly, and did not refer to saying the word correctly. But I will bow to your expertise.

Now, Teine o le I'a I can get back to your concerns. I will tell you that I for one am very interested in Samoa because of your remarks, along with the beauty I saw on the little bit of survivor I watched before the boycott. I have filled the time I would have used watching Survivor surfing Samoa on line. Thank you for pointing out what Survivor has missed.

Exclamation Survivor Samoa; the worst season yet!

I have been a faithful Survivor fan since its inception. However, this season has gotten off to a terrible start. The highlights of this season seem to be physical violence, racism, hatred, bigotry and total disrespect. Generally, the tribes are coming together and becoming acquainted with one another in the first two or three episodes. This year, its seems as if these tribes were coached or rehearsed before the season even started. They hardly know one another, and they act like they've already been together for 30 days. I hate to say it, but my interest in this season's Survivor is rapidly disappearing. The producers have deviated very far off track.....portraying the survivors as ruthless, hateful and violent. And don't give me that line..."its part of the game".......no it isn't. These survivors have been scripted on how to act and what to say.............what a shame........this could be the beginning of the end for what was once a really great reality show.

If you want to place blame then look in the mirror. No not you personally. LOL All the fans of the Show. The producers pay attention. When people like Russell and Coach get lots a feedback they see dollor signs. The more the fans make a fuss but keep on watching the farther down that road they will go. I doubt it is scripted but I don't doubt that they picked certian people for their personality types. If people made a fuss over good gamesmanship and civil personalities then you would see more of that. But people like car crashes and blood sports in the Coliseum. We complain and are offended by the bad behavour but we keep watching........ Human nature in action LOL

Jeff Probst recently said:

Ben is hatefull
Russell is mean
Yasmim talks too much

News flash this IS America, not everyone is nice. If you talk a random group of people you WILL get good and bad, nice & mean, ect.......

If you have 20 super nice people THAT is fake.

Default What show are you people watching?

I mean really people. This is survivor. There are villains, good guys, twerps, tattle tales, idiots, turds, politicians, religious types, homos, etc..etc..etc...
They have to build up the audience's hatred of the bad guys so we can be happy to see them get themselves voted out for being the assholes that we hate them for. ITS SURVIVOR! ! ! ! !
Remember Coach? How about Jonny Fairplay>? How sweet was it to watch them get SOOOOOO close to the money and then get DENIED! ????
How about Dreamz? OH I HATED HIM!!!
How about my least favorite: BOSTON ROB! Blech! If I never watch him again on any reality TV series ; it would be too soon.<sigh>
These are the reason we watch these show. We love to hate these people and watch them get voted out.
