News flash this IS America, not everyone is nice. If you talk a random group of people you WILL get good and bad, nice & mean, ect.......

If you have 20 super nice people THAT is fake.
There is a difference between someone who lacks civility and someone who is morally ambiguous. The first we don't invite to BBQ's and the other we put in prison. Gamesmanship on a physiological level is one thing. Hateful, mean and bigoted is another. The US has child molesters and rapists as well but I don't want to watch them on a TV show. By expanding your argument to cover all Americans, you in essence argue to include them because it gives a better cross section of America. Do we toss in a serial killer or gang banger the next season so it better reflects our society? Is that really the position you want to take?

I doubt it is scripted but I don't doubt that they picked certian people for their personality types. If people made a fuss over good gamesmanship and civil personalities then you would see more of that. But people like car crashes and blood sports in the Coliseum. We complain and are offended by the bad behavour but we keep watching........ Human nature in action LOL
I agree with all of you....I was also wondering why Yasmin signed up when she kept complaining about their living conditions. Why would you sign up for a show about survival unless she thought it was supposed to be held in a city?! And if Russell is "rich" why would the producers put him on the show, except because they probably saw his personality and knew it would draw in the ratings.
Thank you Diane about being interested in my culture. I find a lot of interest in so many cultures, and love learning about them. I found a new interest about how many instructors are interested in studying my culture due to the different island nations. One Samoa is American Samoa and a Territory of the United States, while not so far away is the Independent State of Samoa, where Survivor is being held.

Really? Because when they showed a short glimpse of the girls with their woven pola's (sort of like a shade/curtain for the fale's) it seemed that someone had to have shown them the proper way to tear the coconut leaf down in order to weave it. I don't think Marisa learned that in any class. I may be wrong but since I know how the leaf is torn down in order to be woven, it seems they might have been taught before the show or someone tore it for them during shooting, which is so not survival!
