I think this is a great idea, from a social point of view and academic one. Has anyone considered that the people involved had to accept this situation in order to be a part of this Survivor -Cook Islands? That says something far greater than any of us who are not a part of it can say... It will only be for about 4 shows and then they come back together. Why tip toe around the race issue when this might eventually lead to a greater understanding of each individual ethnic group, their values, social norms, et al..when isolated together. It can't hurt to try this experiment...since the beginning of this country, we have isolated ethnic groups as a hinderance. In this case, they are isolated as a help to all of us. I do not think this will hurt ethnic relations and t hink that it can help...in the long run. |

| Have any of you looked at the members who are on the Survivor Cook Islands? via http://www.survivor.com/ THERE IS A 5TH TRIBE: CALIFORNIANS EXCEPT FOR 4 MEMBERS FROM OTHER STATES, THE REST ARE ALL LIVING OR NATIVE TO CALIFORNIA... WELL, AS A NATIVE CALIFORNIAN MYSELF..That puts a whole new spin on this game since the other regions of the United States are not represented. I don't think this Survivor is such a big deal now since place (or how long you have lived in one place..with that areas values, may play a bigger role than ethnicity) We shall see... | Dividing tribes by race is good for ratings but in the larger context of societal progression, it is a bad idea. Focusing on so-called "race" does not move us towards unity. I'm tired of the island setting. How about the Siberian tundra or the Himalayas? |

| I have mixed feelings. One one hand it has generated alot of interest and I'm sure the ratings will go sky high, but on the other hand, people are people and sometimes, although, not done intentionally, hard feelings can happen, sometimes with just a slip if the tounge. They could have just had 4 tribes with each tribe consisting of a member of the 4 races. We'll see what happens time will certainly tell. ![]() |

| Why is everyone getting so worked up over the show doing this? I really couldn't care one way or another. Do people yell when you have shows that have an all black cast or an all white cast?? I mean come on..... It's just a show for fun. I won't stop watching it because of this, in fact it's making me not want to miss it, no one said anything when they did all old people vs. young people & men vs. women but they have a problem with the same race being on a team. Grow up people, cause for one you know the teams will merge so get over it & enjoy the show WhiteWoman (Who doesn't Care!!!!!) |

| I've Been A Fan Since Day One. I Don't Think This Is Anything Like Oldies/youngsters, Married/single Or Guys And Girls. Where You Watch This Show Will Depend On Feelings. I'm Talking About Neighborhoods. I Don't Think It's A Very Good Idea. |

Hey, there's always been a mixed bag of nuts on Survivor! I think the individual personalities prevail. Your going to know who stands out in the first couple of episodes. It should be interesting seeing how the show divides them into 2 tribes. With 20 castaways, they pretty much knock-off two really quick and by the third episode I'm betting they split in half. I'm hoping there are some cool twists. Anyhow, as long as it isn't predictable, I'll be glued! |
