Default Hispanic is not a race!

Well to tell you the truth I was perplexed about the misuse of the "hispanic" term as race. There are hispanic people that are caucasian, asian and of african american descent. So, if anything I just believe the show and the network show some ignorance in this regard... the word hispanic does not imply a particular race, and hispanics are not of a particular race. This just show how we all stereotype different cultures.

Default Regardless of outcome, good for Asian Men

I've never watched this show, but I will this season because I'm an Asian guy, and I want to see how they do. For those who are sensitive about the race issue, I don't think this show will mean much. In the end, it's just 20(?) individuals who are competing for a prize, and you can't generalize and say, "just because the Asians win, they are the best race". It really doesn't mean a thing. Racists will probably rejoice if their team wins, but racists are simple-minded.

Now, the good thing from an Asian male perspective is that Asian men will FINALLY get some non-stereotypical coverage. In American white media, Asian men are portrayed as kung fu masters, or geeky nerdy types, when in fact we are diverse and confident and cultured. This show will hopefully show 3 Asian men as they are, devoid of stereotypes. They have their own individual character, like Brad is gay, and Yul is a former marine, so it would be foolish to generalize and say all Asian guys are like that. But, at least they break the mold I mentioned above. Anyways, I'm interested in seeing the show, and I hope all of you watch. Default yes, but...

You mean that all Marines aren't gay? Just kidding!

Yes, I'm anxious to see stereotypes blown up. This is going to be an intersting show. I bet no one fits into their stereotype.

So what is the proper word to reference the race of people from these regions? How are you defining race? What distinction are you making between race and culture? I have a sister-in-law who is from Brazil, with a Portuguese ancestry, and she is considered white in the eyes of affirmative action laws.

I think part of what this experiment is seeking to show is the cultural diversity within races and that people cannot be "pigeon-holed" based on their race.
